March 2008 – June 2010                              GSI Water Solutions, Inc.            Portland, OR

Senior Staff Geologist

·         PCB congener and Aroclor database compiled (Access 2007) to support analysis of stormwater loading potential contribution.  Included homolog summary tools for fate-and-transport analysis support.

·         Compiled geo-database of over 4,000 wells and more than 50 years of water level readings in support of modeling efforts and US Geological Survey (USGS) and state regulatory oversight of ‘fossil water’ usage.

·         Access and SQL Server database development;

·         Deployment tools for remote desktop users.

·         Field director for City of Portland contract fieldwork conducted under US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) CERCLA (SuperFund) regulations, Portland Harbor “Downtown Portland Sediment Characterization.”  Responsibilities included:

·         On-river coordinator with contract teaming partners;

·         Decision-maker for month-long fieldwork and sampling strategies;

·         Developed process for laboratory sample collection and transfer.

·         Data manager and hydrogeologist for ASR (Aquifer Storage and Recovery) municipal system, including:

·         SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) data automated collection and Access database import; and

·         Visual data analysis (hydrographs) and well performance monitoring.

·         Data manager for CERCLA-regulated former creosote plant.  Design considerations included:

·         Transducer and manual water level readings at landfill monitoring wells that “heave” and are re-surveyed (many top-of-casing elevations through time);

·         Hydrographs of millions of datapoints (transducers collect readings at 30-minute intervals) and adjacent tidally-influenced river to monitor for barrier protectiveness;

·         Chemical analytical data including soil, sediment, air and water analytical matrices;

·         GIS-based spatial analysis of chemical analytical results.

·         Stormwater data analysis tool for City of Portland, including MS Access and SQL Server database and form development.

·         Documented and debugged Excel Automation (VBA) pre-processor for FEFLOW groundwater model.

·         Updated numerous data management processes, including water metering and efficiency systems, SCADA data import and automated data review, and automated and semi-automated data import scripts to be used on three varying Electronic Data deliverable (EDD) formats (with an infinitely expandable “self-learning” design).

Project Geologist

·         Performed fieldwork including well installation oversight, groundwater monitoring, site cleanup oversight, and soil, soil gas, stormwater and groundwater sampling.

·         Coordinated work plans and oversight under state regulators for local aerial pesticide applicator facility and an active dry cleaner.

·         Directed dig-and-haul operations at a former service station site in Vancouver, and segregated contaminated soil at a former asphalt plant in McMinnville.

·         Provided environmental compliance support for pharmaceutical industry.

·         Managed the local office including subcontracts, field and office-based sampling and reporting, and implemented online calendar and other tools for decentralized operation (including Google Apps integration).

Senior Staff Geologist

·         Completed stormwater mitigation plans (SWPCPs) for industrial facilities located along the Columbia Slough, Portland, Oregon.

·         Stormwater system documentation, permitting, and system upgrades for industrial clients.  Deliverables included SWPCPs and SPCC Plans; clients performed facility upgrades with engineering support and met benchmark goals.

·         Updated Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan for eastern-Oregon bulk fuel handler.

·         Performed detailed property transfer research for CERCLA-liability defense, including detailed historical reviews of impaired facilities.

·         Pursued and supported RI/FS and IRAM implementation for large petroleum cleanup project in eastern Oregon.

·         Delineated and excavated PCB-impacted soils in former metal recycler facility in Vancouver, Washington.

·         Grid sampling over 250-acre agricultural site for lead arsenate impacted surficial soils in Oregon in accordance with DEQ Agricultural Property guidance document.

·         IT projects included website maintenance, tracking, switch maintenance and expansion, and end-user support.

·         Geotechnical project field support for various residential developments in Oregon and Washington.

·         Numerous Phase I and Phase II projects completed within aggressive timeline and budget constraints.

·         RI/FS work and support of Project level staff.

·         GIS research and design for 3D-modeling project of Ross Island lagoon with John Lowe.

·         Subsurface exploration experience using direct push, hollow-stem auger, bucket auger, and air-rotary techniques.  Sampled using split-spoon, Shelby tube and direct-push sleeves.
